Jakes's Weekly Flow #13

Weekly Flow #13 | March 31, 2023

Greetings, beautiful people,
Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and deep wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

A little update on the recent family struggles … We’re still working through it, day by day, albeit from a distance for me. The mental health crisis is real and hard, my heart goes out to those that are currently and have been in similar struggles.

On a beautiful note, last week I was able to go to a quiet, quirky, and impactful fundraising event at a charming little home in West Seattle. It was hosted by Pennye Nixon, who lost her daughter while she was on a journey to Bolivia over 20 years ago. In her memory and spirit, Pennye started the Etta Projects.

Etta Projects (EP) is a small but mighty non-profit organization working in rural eastern Bolivia for the past 20 years. Their focus is on public health, education, and conservation. EP works with local leaders, elected officials, teachers, medical staff, indigenous families, adolescent youth, and many others to create sustainable solutions for local challenges including lack of running water and proper sanitation, gender inequality, lack of access to medical care, poor nutrition, domestic violence, lack of access to medicine, and lack of knowledge about family planning and sexual and reproductive rights.

Etta Projects’ impact is life long, allowing participants to open their minds and make new plans for themselves, their families, and their communities. They are no longer invisible and suffering, but empowered and transforming, to increase their quality of health and life for themselves and future generations of rural Bolivians.

In the spirit of taking action, here’s a quote of the week:

“Active Hope is waking up to the beauty of life on whose behalf we can act. We belong to this world.” - Joanna Macy

You can donate to Etta Projects here: Alternatively, you can support them through a yummy wine purchase. "Water from Wine" is doing a special with free shipping if you buy 3 bottles of the 2015 vintage, which is Pennye’s favorite.

Brightly,
