This month in the Ally Community Events we will be welcoming Jennifer Burling, Director of Sustainable Tourism, from the TTC Ally GreenStep. Jennifer brings more than 20 years of experience in the tourism industry, including roles in project and program management, operations, sales, and leadership to manage GreenStep's Sustainable Tourism division and team.

GreenStep is working "to become the company most known for improving the social, environmental, and economic performance of small and medium-sized enterprises". GreenStep was founded in 2008 to help organizations tackle a common challenge: owners and managers want to do more to reduce their environmental impacts and be responsible in business, but with competing priorities, they often lack the time, knowledge, and budget to make meaningful progress.

Jenn will be joining us to go over some of the tools and resources that GreenStep has built to support the industry, and why it is important to be measuring your sustainability performance as a business or destination, along with how to set meaningful goals and supporting actions in order to improve performance over time.

Topics We Will Cover:

  • Definitions and principles of Sustainable Tourism

  • Why it's important to establish a sustainability baseline

  • What practices can we engage in that will create positive change in our communities and the planet?

  • How to leverage sustainability to speed recovery and build resiliency

  • Resources, tools, and programs to help guide the implementation of more sustainable practices
