Jake's Weekly Flow #14

Weekly Flow #14 | April 7th, 2023

Greetings, kind ones

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and deep wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • In this video, Charles Eisenstein lets it all hang out in this 90 min presentation on where we’re at in society today, as humans, the story of separation, causality, choices, and the morphic resonance that bonds us all. One thought that resonated with me is that if we don’t provide space and systems for grief and if we don’t provide it for joy, we won’t feel alive, that if we block the good, the bad, and the ugly, we will go crazy, and that society will continue to decay. Have a listen/watch, “The Next Five Years.”

  • How to Live with a More Positive Worldview using 4 Simple Shifts - What we see on the internet is just a slice of reality. There is an enormous wave of goodness and progress well underway in the world that almost no one knows about because it is hidden from view: buried by all the fear and anger that seems to be rising to the top. But have no fear... Here are four simple shifts we can all make in our daily lives to retrain our algorithms to instead favor a positive worldview full of helpful, thoughtful, and hopeful internet content.” Thank you to the Goodness Exchange!

  • Just loved this story of a modern-day hero, “A sharply dressed Japanese man with a 'self-defense briefcase' has made a living in 'night moving' — helping battered women disappear without a trace”

  • “How to regenerate technology in service to humanity and the life of our planet? - Let's shift the conversation from the dangers of AI to regenerate technology.”

  • 15 months ago, The Transformational Travel Council set out on a journey with the Willamette Valley and Travel Oregon to cocreate the world’s first TTC-accredited Regenerative Place. As we prepare to share the resulting report in May, this gem pops up in one of my favorite publications, ‘Sunset Magazine.’ The article illuminates how the intentional work they’re doing individually and collectively is creating the fertile conditions necessary for a community to become regenerative and design experiences that are reflective of their values and support the web of life, and honor future generations.“How Oregon Is Leading the Way in Sustainable Travel - A new wave of sustainable and regenerative travel is taking hold in the Willamette Valley.” I am proud to say that Oregon is my home state!

  • Despite thousands of options, I struggle to find shows on Netflix, Prime, Disney, etc. that intrigue me enough to give them my precious time. I recently rediscovered “WaterBear.” I encourage you to do the same. “The home of captivating films and thought-provoking series that empower you to lead a meaningful life.”

  • With all this talk about AI, I want to bring us back to the HC, or Human Connection. I invite you to this compelling read: “The Future Of Brands Is Humanistic Capitalism” - “Humanistic Capitalism is a new form of capitalism where the business's sole intention is to elevate our collective human wellbeing – to empower people and their lives through the means of business.”- Dr. Martina Olbert

We’re blessed to have Michael Halle, on the TTC team, acting as an advisor, mentor, and elder. I was in Ontario this week for some meetings with destinations and companies interested in adopting transformational travel practices and I had the beautiful opportunity to meet Michael face to face for the first time, as well as his partner, Viv.

I was struck by this woman, her kindness, purity, and loving heart. She’s only traveled a couple of times in her life, not too far, and prefers to stay at home. She has a beautiful family, with a wall and a fridge covered in family photos, lots of grandkids and joyful memories. Her eyes lit up like stars when she shared how much she loves to simply bake and babysit her grandkids, I share this as it reminded me of how giving yourself to your family, your loved ones, so completely, is one of the most beautiful ways to live a full, warm, and purpose-filled life. While I advocate for travel near and far, sometimes all we ever need is sitting right in front of us. Thank you, dear Viv, for sharing your love and light with us … And thanks for those fresh baked cookies, they were delicious.

With love,
