Jake's Weekly Flow #15

Weekly Flow #15 | April 14th, 2023

Greetings, good people

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • This stuff pushes the limits of my brain, but I am so fascinated … seeing is more than believing: exploring 'de sitter space' to explain gravity in the expanding early universe.

  • Wildlife works is new to me, and I am so glad I found them, have a look and donate if it calls to you. these are the three pillars of wildlife works' holistic approach to battling climate change through ecosystem preservation. The development and sales of nature-based credits enhance forest community's economic self-determination to transition from extraction-based to conservation-based livelihoods.

  • Don’t watch this! Unless you’re ready to take action and inspire others to do the same. This is a powerful Q&A with Noam Chomsky about the future of our world for the SXSW23 Wonder House. They asked him about the future of our world, our systems of government and power, and our need to come together to address the challenges of our time. the laureate professor and public intellectual shared his thoughts with The University of Arizona College of Social & Behavioral Sciences Dean Lori Poloni-Staudinger.

  • I hope you heard about the wildflower ‘super bloom’ happening across California, if not, enjoy.

  • It’s Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and I’ve been seeing my favorite flower, the Daffodil, all over the place! To help you slow down, be present, and connect with this exciting time for mother nature, enjoy this Spring Meditation. What’s your favorite flower? I dare you to tell someone today and explain why! This spring meditation is a collaboration between Mark Coleman and NatureStream.TV.

  • Despite thousands of options, I struggle to find shows on Netflix, Prime, Disney, etc. that intrigue me enough to give them my precious time. I recently rediscovered “WaterBear.” I encourage you to do the same. “The home of captivating films and thought-provoking series that empower you to lead a meaningful life.”

  • Olive and I are in Hawaii and just LOVING the birdsong and dawn orchestra! Watch small birds in stunning 8K quality with names and sounds! “Listen to them sing and give you a glimpse into their natural world. Experience the beauty of birds up close and in high resolution.” I brought a small recording device that my friend and mentor, Gordon Hempton, the Soundtracker, gave me. AMAZING!

The photo above is of Olive and me at the airport earlier this week, ready to embark on a daddy/daughter ‘Coming of Age’ adventure to the Big Island of Hawaii! We both love the airport, it is so exciting, invigorating, and all about movement and energy. It’s kind of this surreal upside-down world where time is of the essence but also void of meaning, a crazy intersection of time travelers from near and far.

We’ve both got our Transformational Travel Journals, our swimsuits, snorkel gear, and some camping equipment as we will be spending most of the journey in a campervan named “Coconuts,” thanks to Campervan Hawaii!

Growing up with both parents in the travel industry, Olive and Quinn have traveled a lot, six continents by 14 and 12 years old! And while we’ve slept in many tents and plenty of unsavory motels, dare I admit that they might be hotel snobs. Uh oh.

So as a backpacker, trails, and trains, I’ve decided to take my Olive on a more down-to-earth journey, one where we will be traveling inwardly and outwardly, and more focused on the quiet and calm than the screens and chaos.

We will be bonding with mother nature, listening to the waves, the birdsong, and the insects, and going forest bathing. She’ll get a taste of #vanlife, connect with other travelers, tune in to real adventure, and maybe even walk over some hot lava!

Olive turns 13 next month and she’s becoming a woman! This will be a bit of a rite of passage, at least a quirky daddy version of one.

Our Ambassador in Hawaii, Debbie Misajon, has connected me to a beautiful soul that will facilitate a coming-of-age ceremony in relation to her teaching and spiritual practice. She works with an ancient lineage called the Melissea tradition. It originated long ago in Europe and the Melissea are women who work with honeybees spiritually and devotionally.

She is creating a simple ceremony with an earth mandala, yummy food, and tea and making a beeswax candle and body butter. There will also be a walk to a sacred waterfall for a bathing ritual.

And she will be opening a live beehive! I learned that Honeybees are a female society (almost all females for most of the year). Jenny says it is a magical experience and can be applied to the "coming of age" in the aspects of true divine feminine energies, sisterhood, and fertility. Apparently, the honeybees have drastically changed her life and rooted her in a deeper sense of her feminine nature as a woman.

I’m so excited to go on this journey with my favorite thing, she deserves all the magic she has in front of her on the islands and in life.
