GUEST SPEAKER: Travis Bays

At Bodhi Surf + Yoga, Travis Bays is known as the connector and the “ideas guy”, always dreaming up new projects to take on, finding ways to connect (or connect with) individuals and movements, and looking for ways to improve himself and everything around him.

A former Peace Corp Costa Rica volunteer who spent his two service years in Bahia Ballena, Costa Rica, Travis feels privileged to have been able to start a social and environmental impact business in the community that stole his heart and affected his life so positively.

Professionally, aside from being a social and environmental entrepreneur, Travis is also a consultant for the Stanford Woods Institute for the environment, and has over 15 years of experience in micro credit community banking, project design and management, and best practices for sustainable tourism. He is a co-founder of SOMOS community foundation, and the Central American Ambassador for the Transformational Travel Council.

He is a committed husband and father, ardent surfer, and ocean lover, and enjoys incorporating his passions into his wide array of roles at Bodhi Surf + Yoga.

ORGANIZERS

TTC ALLY SILVIA RICO AND TTC AMBASSADOR DOUGLAS SIMÕES

Silvia Rico is a devoted mom to Adriana (14) and Santiago (12), and a passionate traveller. “I love life, the world and its diversity. Daughter to a Spanish mom and a Bolivian dad whose family relocated to Peru over 50 years ago, I have lived in Barcelona, Paris, Rotterdam, Cusco and Lima. I studied business administration (BBA & MBA) and worked in two great multinationals before I started my own company. In 2002, after a sabbatical in South America, I decided to pursue my love of travel, move to Cusco and start Enigma. My family and friends thought I was under the effects of a Peruvian concoction! My mom sent me straight to the psychiatrist.

I love innovating and experiencing the authentic. My company, Enigma, is my other baby – I love what we do to make the most special journeys to Peru for our guests… and I’m also a workaholic. Trekking in the Andes is one of the most amazing ways I have found to reconnect with myself while feeling free and experiencing life and the world.

Lately, I’m highly interested in the conservation of cultural heritage in Peru and in continuing to improve through sustainability. I’m also into quantum physics, ancient wisdom, human consciousness and the power of intention to do good”.

Douglas Simoes was born in 1974, he is married to Lucian and father to Anita and Miguel. He has a degree in Computer Science and masters degree in Business Administration. Douglas worked for tech companies including IBM, but left to guide Cave and Mountain Trips, joining an outgoing company as a business partner in 1996. Douglas has travelled to more than 40 countries in 5 continents. He has lived in Australia, UK and Canada and for a couple of years spent 6 months at the Maraú Península in Bahia State where he and his wife were volunteers at a community school. he still guides trips at least once a year and is the former president of ABETA.

During his free time he likes to travel with his family to wildlife, nature and ski destinations, dive with his wife and hike or cycle alone to the mountains. At home he likes to cook, to play guitar, play and to watch football and brew beer!
